During the summer of 2012, I worked with the Conetoe Family Life Center Summer Youth Program. The Center is located in rural, eastern North Carolina. The center strives to give students opportunities in the hopes to prevent youth pregnancy, gangs and violence. During the summer, I worked with the center to help create a daily schedule of structured events, helped to facilitate the daily events, assisted in scheduling and organizing off site activities, worked with the youth in the community gardens, assisted in cleaning and cooking fresh produce, visited other youth programs in an effort to bring back resources to the current program, and wrote a grant for a community technology center. I currently serve on the executive board.
MissionTo bring programs and resources into the community that will educate and empower the local citizens of Conetoe in ares of health and wellness such as diabetes, nutrition and physical education.
